BEWARE: Frequent Text Message Typos Can Be A Signs of Stroke Symptoms

It's still considered as a normal condition when you occasionally do an error in typing (Typo) text message (SMS). But you may need to be alert when typos happen very often and repeatedly. It may be stroke symptoms. However, typos is not the main signs of a stroke. This article written only for information and early detection purpose.

This finding based on a case when a man in Boston received two text messages (SMS) from his wife who was pregnant 3 months. The message contains sentences that are confusing because there are so many typos. The man's wife was not a careless person, so much typing errors seem odd for him.

The man then took his wife to conduct medical tests to the hospital. They were shocked when the doctor said that man's wife suffered a signs and symptoms of stroke, including disorientation, inability to use her right arm and right leg properly, and little difficulty speaking.

The diagnosis was confirmed by MRI scan (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), then immediate stroke treatment was very necessary for her. Doctor promptly provided appropriate medical therapy to the man's wife, until he recovered from a stroke and her baby were safe.

The case was reported by 3 doctors from Boston Harvard Medical School in the Archives of Neurology journal, as reported by MNN, Friday (28/12/2012).

"Digital notes is likely to be an important media for identifying neurological disease, especially for those who rely more on written communication, such as SMS, chat, and social media, than verbal communication", the study authors said.

The researchers have specify the problem as dystextia. Dystextia is similar to aphasia, a term used to describe a condition where a person has difficulty in processing language, either it is spoken or written, which is often a signs of a stroke symptoms.
